Here are the "moveables" for the game in edit mode :

From left to right :
Space Pirate, Sentry Bot (wife), Alert Bot 1 (child), Alert Bot 2 (child), Attack Droid (Pit bull), Chaser Droid (Chihuahua), Flee Droid (Cat)

One kind of neat little element, is their different eye color indicates movement behavior.  Blue eyes, like on the family, means that they will head for the door upon seeing the pirate. Red eyes, like on AD (Pit bull) and CD (Chihuahua), means they will chase you, and green eyes, like on the FD (Cat) means they will run away from you.

looks nice. I am interested to see how easy it is to tell the difference between chase droid and flee droid on the mobile version.

Yeah this is the first pass of the new tiles and we have only tested on desktop so far.  We are building the mobile versions this weekend, and we realize that we may need to tweak somethings to make them more distinguishable on mobile.

Really like them. Think my favourite would be the ladder.

Also have you started/going to start a gameapedia for it just for when new players join? I know I found the TCD one very helpful when I first started.

edit: Also is the idea that you are in a ship? Just the writing still says "work on your house". Just a little thing smile

yes, the game at first is pretty confusing, it really helps to have some sort of guides beside tutorials (that are a huge plus compared to TCD)

Yeah, we've haven't changed the in game text yet, but that is easy so we will do that shortly.  Yes, I am planning on creating a gameapedia for it, though, right now it will probably mostly just point at the TCD wiki.  Lastly, one cool feature that you guys haven't seen yet is TH's single player mode.  We have 150 levels of single player/offline levels that you can play with no fear of dying that were designed to teach you the game.  It should be very helpful for new players.

well, a lot of effort has been made to plan the tutorials, i see no reasons to dump them.
they are really helpful in smoothing the learning curve

Yes, they are the same. Cylence from the TCD boards spent a lot of time and did an excellent job creating a single player experience that teaches you the game mechanics.

I must admit i am concerned that distinguishing what is what between different tiles and different tools is much more difficult than in TCD. I fear the impatient masses with short attention spans will not bother giving the game the time it takes to learn what tile is what.

If i was fronting the cash for this project id be telling the artist the following: Love the vault, walls, pits, trap door tiles. Love the idea of different colours indicating bot behavior (just need more colour to make it more obvious).

Attack droid is a mess - make it more obviously threatening. Switches and wiring are not as clearly marked and decipherable as in TCD.

Tools are extremely confusing. It will take me ages to figure out what tool is used for what. In TCD its obvious a saw goes through wood, explosives go through concrete, brick looks like a brick etc. The new saw could be mistaken for a gun, the new gun could be mistaken for a blow torch. Make this stuff more self explanatory so the learning curve is not so steep. Such changes obviously wont affect gameplay depth, but i fear neglecting to do so will keep many potential purchases and players (even if they are more likely to only be short term players) away.

I thought the original idea was to make the game more "cuddly" so as to increase the potential player base. It might be more cuddly but you have swapped "gory" for "confusing". The success of this I think will depend on how well it is received by the tablet market - if its too confusing and people find themselves squinting at the screen (as i do even on PC) to see what is what... you will lose business.

Well i think ive got my concerns and point across, if a little late in the game (sorry bout that). Hope it helps.

I think more important than the actual symbol is the tutorial introducing the player to the game.  I know there are many strategy games where I have played for ages before realising what a symbol is supposed to be, even though I've been happily using it for a few months.  If the tutorial introduces each symbol well then it should become intuitive which to use each time.

Amatiel, thanks for the feedback. We have already changed the attack droid considerably. As for the tools, which in particular do you find most problematic?
