Reducing the power of combo locks and magic dances

This is a half baked idea but maybe someone can help me improve it. It seems most people hate combo locks, magic dances, and clocks to some extent. What if we introduced a new tool, call it a "wire trace". You activate it on any conducting tile and it temporarily reveals every conducting tile that touches that tile for a 3-6 tile range. I think it would maybe take a few iterations to get the right tool price and range figured out.

Thoughts?

That's a great idea for combo locks as they are the worst aspect of the game for me.  That is to the point where if I'm doing Santa runs and come across a combo, I give them nothing.

I guess you would be able to use it on both live and cold conducting surfaces.  Perhaps have it as a bot only tool (combining with the idea of giving 3 lives - using the bot/kids as extra lives).  It would be a scouting tool, after all.
